Gearfest is a festival produced by Black Student

Assembly and is a staple event on the university's

social calendar, especially for the thriving

black-identified community on campus.

The event Increases in reach and scope with

each year, and  continuously evolves to be bigger

and better. In the past, Gearfest showcased

blooming artists such as Jhene Aiko, Tory Lanez,

J. Cole, and Bruno Mars. Every year, we push for

novel ways to bring fresh names and

up-and-coming artists to USC's campus, in

addition to showcasing the many talents and

skills found within our very own student body.

This year, Gearfest will be more than just a concert

-- it will be a music festival curated by BSA's newest

initiative, Creative Experience

During the day, attendees can enjoy student and

local artist performances, participate in various

festival activities including henna tattoos and water

balloon painting, and visit booths hosted by local,

black-owned businesses. The sunset will initiate

Gearfest's transition to a full-size concert,

showcasing the infamous talents of underground

and mainstream artists; music that relates across

races, genders, and sexualities.

Gearfest is our chance to showcase and empower black excellence, to combat the harsh light in which our community has been submerged and to support the many small, innovative, businesses in the Los Angeles area. Scheduled right in the middle of Black History Month, this celebration will accentuate the success that people of color have achieved and the myriad of possibilities yet to be explored within our community.
